Bean Index reads the shops of 111 UK roasters once a day. This page sets out what we publish from that data, how to cite it – and what we don't publish.
Price index: the monthly edition
From November we freeze an edition once a month: prices per kg by origin and process, as a median and a range, with the number of coffees and roasters – as a table (CSV) and a chart. How we calculate it is in the methodology.
An edition contains no roaster names and no individual coffees, only aggregated figures: a row appears only with at least 20 coffees from at least 5 roasters, and no roaster supplies more than 25% of them. The price index describes shop prices of coffee. It is not a financial index and can't be traded.
RSS feeds: what's new, without an account
New coffees, coffees back in stock and coffees that got cheaper – as a feed for any feed reader, with no account, no e-mail and no tracking. Feeds contain no prices; those are on the pages, with the time we checked them.

How to cite
Please give the source and the date, for example: “Source: Bean Index (beanindex.coffee), Speciality coffee price index, October 2026”. A link is welcome but not required.
Only our own aggregated figures – the tables and charts of the price index – are published under the CC BY 4.0 licence. The roasters' details, texts and images are not covered: they belong to the roasters.
What we don't publish
- No downloadable list of all coffees and no API with individual coffees. A roaster can ask to be removed at any time, and we usually do that within 48 hours – a list once handed out could not be taken back.
- No rankings of roasters (“cheapest”, “most expensive”).
- No data about visitors: no cookies, no tracking.

Analyses for companies
Beyond the public price index we can prepare time series and analyses by origin, process and pack size – aggregated only, without roaster names. Requests to hello@beanindex.coffee.
